Before the summer began, Kid Cudi shared plans to release two albums in 2016 — one that would be out during the warmest season and the second to follow in fall. Plans have changed yet again as Cudi is releasing a double-disc album, 90-plus minutes of music, sometime this month. While he doesn’t use the title Passion, Pain and Demon Slayin’ directly, it’s speculated that this is that album.
“So I’m working on a date for a release this month,” he tweeted. “Available on ALL PLATFORMS for streaming and download, physicals shortly after. At 18 tracks deep, the album is well over an 1hr 30mins long, so the physical will be a double disc set.”
Cudi’s specification that he will be releasing the music on all platforms seems like a very important qualifier, especially when considering the current controversial landscape of music service exclusives that has become an industry trend. For Cudi, it sounds like it’s most important to him to make his music available to the masses.”Music shouldn’t be a headache to find especially in a digital space. It’s actually easier going to Best Buy to get a CD than it is to DL one.”
Regardless of what you think about Cudi’s more recent guitar-driven music, diehard fans should be hyped about what direction the unpredictable artist is prepared to head in now. If his recent work on Travi$ Scott’s new album is any indication, we might just get some of the classic Cudi smoothness on the forthcoming album.
